Bringing gardeners and nurseries together

How to Download Garden Catalog PROFILES

When you download Garden Catalog PROFILES, your goal is to get the software from the web site, and set it up on your computer, so you can use it to find mail-order nurseries whenever you want.

There are four basic steps ...

  1. Download
  2. Unpack
  3. Install
  4. Run

Print out this page, so you can refer to it as you go through the steps.

These instructions assume that you know how to look at the folders on your disk drive, and that you know how to create new folders and save files.

I'll do my best to inject some dry humor along the way, so you'll see that downloading can be a little bit of fun, as well as a quick way to get software.

Step 1 - DOWNLOAD

The purpose of this step is to copy Garden Catalog PROFILES from the web site to your computer.

To do this, you need to be on the special customer download page. You will see this page after you pay for the software by clicking the "Buy Now" button on the "How to Order" page.

Once you are on the download page, click on the link that says "Click here to start the download".

Your computer will open a window where the download can take place.

The details may differ from one computer to another, but the overall purpose is to let you specify a folder on your computer where the downloaded file should end up.

You can accept the suggested folder or create a new one. For example, a good choice is ...

C:\My Download Files\Profiles

Make a note of the location you choose, including the full path. The download window will suggest a file name and file type. Life will be much simpler if you accept the proposed file name, which is "Profiles.zip", and file type, such as "PKZIP" or "WINZIP".

By the way, if you do not see any file type at all, you may not have the right software on your computer to unzip the file. Unlikely, but possible. If that happens, contact us at support@norellsoftware.com.

OK, now you are all set. Go ahead and start the download. When the download is complete, you will see the new file ("Profiles.zip") in the location you specified. For example, you might see ...

C:\My Download Files\Profiles\Profiles.zip

But, wait! Before you click on anything, read on.

Step 2 - UNPACK

The download file has been "zipped" to make it download faster. Before you can install the software, you need to "unzip" the download file.

And, before you can "unzip" it, you need to find it.

If you left the download window open, and you see an "Open Folder" button, click on the button, and the window will find the download file for you. Otherwise, you may have to look around a bit. But, you wrote down the full path, right? Right??? If you still do not see it, use the search tool on your system.

Ok, now you're staring at the file ("Profiles.zip"). Double-click on the file name.

The "unzip" software on your computer will open up. Look for an unzip icon or command, such as "Extract to ...".

Select this command. The software will probably give you a chance to say whether you want to unzip all of the files and whether you want to store them on disk. You do. Most of the time, the defaults are probably pretty reasonable.

A good location is the same folder that you used before, for example ...

C:\My Download Files\Profiles

Step 3 - INSTALL

Now you are ready to run the setup program that will install Garden Catalog PROFILES.

First, close any other applications that may be running (always a good practice before installing new software).

Then, double-click on "Setup.exe".

This file is probably right on the screen, in your file list. If not, you can run "Setup.exe" the same way you would run any other program on your system. For example, on many windows-based systems, you would click "Start", "Run", browse for the path and file name, then click "OK".

If you followed the example above, the file is located at ...

C:\My Download Files\Profiles\Setup.exe

The "Install Destination Drive" windows opens and asks for an "Install to" location. You can simply accept the suggested default. Or, if you prefer, you can key in a different location.

Click on the "Continue" button. This opens the "Setup Alert" window, which is simply a final double-check before starting the installation process.

Click on the "Install" button. The installation takes only a few moments. When it is complete, two windows open up - a "Setup Notification" window and a Garden Catalog PROFILES folder.

Click "OK" in the "Setup Notification" window to close it.

Drag the ladybug icon from the Garden Catalog PROFILES folder to your desktop.

Congratulations! You have just installed Garden Catalog PROFILES.

Step 4 - RUN

To start Garden Catalog PROFILES, double-click on the red ladybug icon on your desktop.

You can also start the software the same way you would run any other program on your system. For example, on many windows-based systems, you would click "Start", "Run", browse for the path and file name ("Profiles.exe"), then click "OK".

If you installed the program to its default location, the file is located at ...

C:\Profiles\Profiles.exe

The software is designed to be easy to use. If you have any questions while running the software, press the F1 key on your keyboard for "help" that applies to your current task. Or, for broader questions about the software, click on the Help option. If you experience any problems installing or running Garden Catalog Profiles, check the README file that comes with the download.
